With the rapid development of food and biochemical,pharmaceutical industDy in answering increasingly higher requirement on improving quality of life,as societies behave more equally towards their citizens.Preserving nutritiveness,biuactivities of the heat sensitive components in products are critical.Aqueous solution/suspensions of such valuables (extracts such as Chinese medicines,or in natural forms such as Bovine milks),lower temperature processing in order to obtain concentrated liquid products to dry products is most desirable.Among various approaches,freezing induced separations (also called freeze concentration and freeze separation) are of great academic and practical interest.Freeze separation units can be linked with other devices such as spray dryer to make spray frozen droplets and then move the particles to freeze dryer to make dried particles in entirely cold systems.Despite the slow market take-up of the freeze separation technologies internationally,research effort is getting stronger in recent years with greater potentials seen in the markets.In this presentation,the underlined principles,results of latest research,and a couple of technological developments will be described and discussed.Future directions in this area will also be presented and discussed.
