To protect their tissues against various stimuli, plants have evolved two modes of immunity, pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) triggered immunity (PTI) and effector-triggered immunity (ETI), which extensively share signalling machinery and discriminate by the occurrence of hypersensitive cell death.Plant hormones act an important layer of plant immunity with jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA) as prime candidates. In our previous work, we have mapped defence related responses in two grapevine cell lines derived from genotypes that are either susceptible to important pathogens (cv.Pinot Noir) or, in consequence of coevolution with those pathogens have acquired resistance correlated with the ability for a vigorous hypersensitive response (V.rupestris).
