In Malaysia, diversity study of marine fungi mostly concerned on those occurring on wood in mangrove habitats while those on sandy beaches were rare.Previous study on the diversity of marine fungi on sandy beaches commonly used morphology to identify fungi on the substrata and the shortcoming of this method was the inability to detect unculturable and fungi existing as mycelia on the substrata.
