Mesothelin is a cell surface glycoprotein whose expression in normal human tissues is limited to mesothelial cells lining the pleura,peritoneum and pericardium.However,mesothelin is highly expressed in mesothelioma,pancreatic,ovarian and lung adenocarcinoma.Recent studies show that mesothelin is the receptor for the cell surface glycoprotein CA125 and this binding may play an important role in tumor metastasis.The high expression of mesothelin on several cancers with limited expression on normal tissues makes it an attractive target for cancer immunotherapy.We are conducting clinical trials of two different agents,SS 1P and MORAb-009,targeting mesothelin.
