In the past decades, chemotherapeutics are the primary treatment options applicable to cancers. However, most anti-cancer drugs have poor water solubility, rapid blood clearance and severe side effects for normal tissues. In an attempt to overcome these drawbacks, various nanoscaled drug delivery systems (DDSs) such as,dendrimer, vesicles, liposomes, micelles and inorganic materials are fabricated to greatly enhance the water solubility and stability of anti-cancer drugs.Meanwhile, these DDS are also widely employed in cancer therapy owing to their improved pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics arising from the enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect.Nevertheless, these traditional DDSs are difficult to trace after they enter the cells and release the drugs. So it is important to develop traceable DDS for realizing the spatiotemporal drug release visualized. We developed a novel drug delivery system with aggregation-induce emission (AIE) for anti-cancer drug delivery and self-localization of nano vehicles. This DDS exhibited excellent anti-cancer effect and showed high quality imaging for the distribution ofnano vehicles in cells.
