Access site complications are reportedly the most common problem associated with catheter intervention. We retrospectively evaluated access site complications associated with transpopliteal endovascular treatment (EVT) of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and identified risk factors for these complications. Our study included 63 consecutive patients (46 men, mean age 71.4 ± 10.4 years) treated with transpopliteal EVT between November 2005 and January 2009.Retrograde (n =58) and antegrade (n =5) transpopliteal procedures were performed to target 77 lesions, including 12 distal to the trifurcation.
