Smoking cessation leads to both beneficial and harmful changes in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors.One of the possible mechanisms is weight gain following smoking cessation.Smoking cessation is associated with increases in body weight, which is itself a strong risk factor for CVD.Nevertheless, to our knowledge, few studies have investigated the effect of the weight gain that accompanies smoking cessation on the risk factors of CVD.Our objective was to determine whether they are associated with the weight gain that accompanies smoking cessation.
