Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1964, Sino-French relations have gone through an unusual course of development. This article examines the historical evolution of France’s China policy in three important historical periods, including Charles de Gaulle, Mitterrand, Jacques Chirac. It analyzes the trend of France’s China policy towards China in Sarkozy and discusses the main factors that affect France’s China policy. This article argues that the “de Gaulleism” rooted in French foreign policy, the characteristics of the international situation, the domestic political transition, the policy preferences of individual decision-makers, the values of human rights, economic and trade relations, the problems of Taiwan, China and Tibet constitute Important Factors Affecting the Development of Sino-French Relations.
