Wild crop relatives have adapted to a multitude of insect and pathogen pests,and their resistances may be used for breeding better protected crops.Research by our group has shown that some populations of the wild Barbarea vulgaris ssp.arcuata are resistant to a flea beetle and diamond-back moth,whereas other populations are resistant to a pathogen causing white blister rust.The two resistances are associated with two divergent evolutionary types of the subspecies,which are strongly differentiated genetically and have different geographic distributions in Eurasia.
