[Objective]Synthetic colorants in food make a potential threat to the human health.Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with God nanorods was applied for rapid analysis of Allure red and Sunset yellow,two colorants used in beverages.[Methods]Au nanorods with different aspect ratio (AR) as the substrate were synthetized with a seed mediated way and characterized by the Uv-vis spectra and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).The SERS spectra of Allure red and Sunset yellow in standard solution and beverage samples were obtained based on the Au nanorods substrates.Partial least Squares (PLS) models were employed to predict the concentration of colorants.[Results]There different aspect ratio (AR) of nanorods were fabricated to select the optimal SERS substrate for analyzing each colorant.The TEM images confirmed that the aspect ratio of nanorods was ranged from 1.8,2.4 to 3.5 by increasing the amounts of AgNO3.The lowest concentration of standard solution detected was 0.10 mg/L for Allure red and Sunset yellow with gold nanorods of AR 2.4 or AR 1.8 as the substrate,respectively.Furthedy,Allure red and sunset yellow were successfully determined from thirteen different beverages.The quantitative analyses models exhibited good predictability for the colorant.[Conclusion]This study provides a new,rapid and sensitive approach for analysis of trace amounts of synthetic colorants in beverages based on SERS coupled with gold nanorods,which shows great potential for analysis of other food additives in food by a convenient and rapid method.
