Objective Inadequate expression of human milk (EHM) of hospitalized infants were noticed in a neonatal center of a maternity hospital of Shanghai in the early of 2014.A family education plan aimed to increase the EHM to the NICU.Methods A breast milk pumping diary (Figure 1) was introduced to the mother with a preterm infant admitted in the NICU after April of 2014.The rate of expression (days of EHM to NICU/hospital days),BMF (days of infants fed with exclusive human milk/hospital days), PBM (partial breast milk feeding, days of more than 6 feeds of human milk/hospital days),PFF (partial formula feeding, days of more than 2 feeds of preterm formula but at least one breast milk/hospital days) and FF (formula feeding, days of infants fed with preterm formula) was calculated.
