Methods to improve the operating efficiency of power-train systems and the design of more efficient pure electric vehicles (PEV)have become a research hotspot within the industry, worldwide.This paper is to analyze multi-gear PEV power-train systems; in particular it will study a novel two motor multi speed PEV power-train structure.Through modeling and simulation, results show the proposed configuration can improve vehicle dynamic and economic performance significantly.Compared with typical multi-gear transmission arrangements primary clutches are removed and gear shifting is realized through motor torque switching control, consequently a better riding comfort can be obtained.The proposed lay-out provides a flexible and portable electric drive system that is simpler than typical ICE power-trains and can provide better performance.Two motor multi-speed PEV power-train studied in this paper is one effective method for improving electric drive-line structures.
