All organisms have evolved DNA damage response (DDR) and immune mechanisms to maintain genome stability and cope with pathogen attacks.Although these two stress response pathways have been well studied independently, their relationship is poorly understood. In plants, the immune hormone salicylic acid (SA) can not only induces expression of defense genes, but also increases the rate of homologous recombination, one of the DNA repair pathways. However, the biological significance of this increase and the underlying molecular mechanism has yet to be revealed.Interestingly, the mutation in a key immune regulator SNI1 (suppressor of nprl-1,inducible 1), mimics the SA treatment.
