Objective:To study the effect of Simplified Taijiquan on college Studentsbody shape and breathing function. Methods: 60 Zunyi Normal College students(19.1 ± 2.2 years old)were selected, with 30 males and 30 females, and were randomly divided into exercise group and control group. Each group would take the exercise for 5 days a week,1 hour a day.Subjects from the 2 groups were tested every 4 weeks in terms of body shape index as well as vital capacity, oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide excretion and respiratory index. Results and conclusion: Between the Tai Chi group and the control group, there were no statistically significant differences in terms of the fundamental data such as height, leg length, tendon length, ankle girth, hip width, shoulder width and weight(P>0.05).Through the changes of the three indexes of pulmonary ventilation(V ′ E),oxygen consumption(V ′ O2)and carbon dioxide output(V ′ CO2)found in the 40 college students,it is easy to discover that during the exercise, the index of pulmonary ventilation of the students in Tai Chi group was in a cumulative rise, and both the male and female studentsvital capacity were higher than those in the control group.
