1.Introduction Nelsonite is a rare igneous rock type composed largely of Fe-Ti oxides and apatite (Watson and Taber,1913),and is commonly associated with alkali igneous activity (Force,1991;Darling and Florence,1995;Chen et al.,2013).The Yeoncheon mine comprises a titanomagnetite ore deposit which occurrs within Neoproterozoic gabbro in the northwestern part of Gyeonggi massif,South Korea.Yeoncheon area previously revealed Neoproterozoic rift-related magmatism from 742-770 M alkaline granitoids a (Lee et al.,2003).Furthermore,two different Neoproterozoic ages reported in the Hongseong area, southwestern Gyeonggi Massif, are of MORB-like back-arc basin basalt or gabbro formed at 890-860 Ma and ocean-related,intra-continental rift setting metabasite formed at 763.5±18.3 Ma (Oh et al.,2009),which is the extension of the Dabie-Sulu collision belt in China. The Yeoncheon deposit reports products of 8,000 tons of iron in the 1940s open pit and recently, this mine area is estimated to have about 630,000 tons of mineral reserves (42.4 %Fe and 23.4 %TiO2;KORES,2008).The aim of this study is to review the Fe-Ti (-P) ore genesis with the origin of gabbroic rocks.
