Background: In order to provide direct reduction process solutions to natural gas resource-poor regions, Middex started the direct reduction process based on coal-to-syngas back in the 1990s and was successfully applied in South Africa in 1999 Irona Steel Works, whose reducing gas is the output of the COREX plant.
