Neuroinflammation and oxidative stress is involved in many human neuroimmunodegenerative diseases,including the human immunodeficiency virus disease/AIDS,multiple sclerosis,Alzheimers disease,amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ASL),and Parkinsons disease.In our model of H1V-associated dementia (HAD),FVB/N mice are infected with a neuroimmunopathogenic mutant of the Moloney murine Leukemia Virus (MoMuLV) ts1,which causes progressive neuroimmunodegeneration similar to that of HAD patients.In the central nervous system (CNS),both HIV and ts 1 infect endothelial cells,microglia,and astrocytes,causing an inflammatory response from these cell types.
