Layered double hydroxides(LDHs)which are well-known as hydrotalcite-like compounds have attracted much attention due to their special layered structures and high anion exchange capacities.The general formula of LDHs can be described as [M2+1-xM3+x(OH)2]x+(An-x/n)·mH2O,where M2+ and M3+ are divalent and trivalent metal cations such as Mg2+,Ni2+,Al3+ and Fe3+ which occupy octahedral holes in a brucite-like layer,and An– can be various kinds of inorganic or organic anions such as CO3 2-,NO3-and Clwhich are located in the hydrated interlayer galleries.LDHs have been widely used as functional materials,including ion exchange hosts,flame retardants,biomedical materials,catalysts or catalyst supports.For example,a noble metal-free Ni/Al2O3 catalyst derived from Ni-Al hydrotalcite exhibited 100%conversion and 93%selectivity for the decomposition of N2H4·H2O at room temperature.
