Stem blight (Phomopsis asparagi) causes considerable damage to asparagus production. This disease has been reported in many countries, including Taiwan, Japan, Australia, China, Greece, and Thailand.Fungicides are commonly used to control this disease, and to date, no resistant variety of the fungus has been detected.A common cultivation technique for white asparagus is soil mounding.Further, stem blight has not been detected in the white asparagus field in Hokkaido, although damages have been noted in the nearby green asparagus fields.
