An analytical method based on ion chromatography incorporating post-column reaction with a color regent by visible absorbance detector was established to monitor the trivalent Cr3+,hexavalent Cr6+ in water samples and cosmetics.Chromium speciation of samples were formed the visible absorbances of Cr(Ⅲ)-pyridine dicarboxylic acid(PDCA) complex and the Cr(VⅥ)-diphenylcarbohydrazide(DPC) complex through pre-column and post-column derivitization respectively, and then they were detected at 520hm.Under optimized conditions,the detection limits of method (3σ) were in 4.7μg/L for Cr3+ and 0.42μg/L for Cr6+,the relative standard deviatation (RSD) were 1.1% and 1.3%(n=8), and the average recoveries were in the rang of 93.1%~ 106.4%.The coexistence cations,namely Fe2+,Fe3+,pb2+,Cu2+,A13+,Zn2+,Hg2+did not affect the chromiums determination.This method is suitable for the analysis of chromiums speciation in samples.
