Two methods based on CFM are recommended to assess severity of mitral regurgitation: PISA method (quantitative) and Vena Contracta (VC) method (semi-quantitative).Both methods apply 2 similar presumptions: 1) constant size of regurgitant orifice and 2) hemispheric proximal flow convergence region (PFCR) or round shape of VC.These presumptions often dont match the reality which degrades their clinical value.Real time 3D TEE (RT-3D TEE) with CFM has nowadays a good spatial and time resolution.It enables exact morphological analysis of PFCR and VC and their behaviour during systole.
