Breast cancer is more prevalent in developed western countries than in developing Asian countries. One in nine American women will have breast cancer in their lifetimes. The Western European and North American population have the highest lifetime risk.Prevalence of breast cancer in these countries is estimated between 8 and 10%.However,the lowest prevalence is seen in Asian countries, about 1%.Although, breast cancer prevalence is low in developing countries; tumour characteristics and presentation of breast cancer is worse in these countries. It may be due to lack of screening programs, low level of awareness regarding this cancer, cultural barriers or religious belief.Sociodemographic and clinic-pathological features of more than 1100 breast cancer patients diagnosed in Southern Iran will be presented and discussed.
