The recently discovered Panxian-Luoping fauna (Anisian, the Middle Triassic) is the earliest of the three Triassic marine faunas in China. For the reptilian assemblage,it is the most diversified compared with those in Europe and North America, including ichthyosaurs, sauropterygians (nothosaurs and pachypleurosaur-like forms),turtle-like saurosphargids, protorosaurs, and archosauriforms. Here we report a new reptile lately found for the fauna. It has a small head (12 cm long) relative to the total body length (275 cm) and is characterized by a fence or comb-like dentition bearing more than 135 pleurodont teeth in the upper or lower jaws, the delicate teeth with a crown distally needle-like and proximally blade-shaped,the mandible with a shovel-headed anterior end,and the rostrum strongly bending downwards to form a deep beak posteroventrally against the former when jaws are occluded or semi-closed.
