Content: When colonies of the same Myxococcus strains encounter, they merge mutually; whereas the colonies of different Myxococcus strains form separate territories.The mechanisms of this self-discrimination remain unclear.In this study, we mutated the model strain M.xanthus DK1622 by random transposon mutagenesis, and the resulting mutants were inoculated in adjacent pairs on growth medium to screen for the genes responsible for self-identification (SI).From 3,392 mutants, we obtained nine independent SI mutants that did not merge with the wild-type strain, as well as the other SI mutants to each other.
