Homogenous neodymium doped yttrium aluminum gamet (Nd∶YAG) powders were synthesized by the reverse co-precipitation with ammonium hydrogen carbonate as precipitant.The influences of the M3+ (metal ions) solution concentration, the dosage of the dispersant (NH4)2SO4, the volume ratio of alcohol to water, and the reaction temperature on dispersibility of precursors and Nd∶YAG powders were systematically studied.The synthesized powders were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, SEM, BET and chemical analysis.The powder calcined at 1100℃ for 4h was used as the raw material to fabricate Nd∶YAG transparent ceramics.The compacts were vacuum sintered at different temperature for 10h.The influences of sintering temperature on grain size, relative density and optical quality were investigated.The optical quality of the vacuum sintered Nd∶YAG ceramics was greatly improved by post-HIP-treatment at 1600℃ for 3h.The transmittance of the sample vacuum sintered at 1800℃ followed by HIP increased from 48.0% to 81.2% at the wavelength of 1064um.
