@@ Introduction The pace of innovation in the field of MRI continues to be very robust. These innovations come from straightforward extensions of current technology, such as increasing the scanners’B0 magnetic field, from progress in fields outside of MRI,such as the mathematics of compressed sensing, and from a blend of developing technologies and clinical need, such as patient motion detection and compensation.A survey of current technologies suggests we may be imaging 4-10X faster for many scans with no loss of image quality, seeing new forms of image contrast and levels of detail, and reducing the effects of patient motion on our images.Discussion This talk presents a few of the new methods that ale being developed by the global research community, have shown early promise in improving the diagnostic impact or cost effectiveness of MRI,and ale likely to begin showing up as clinically available methods in the next few years.
