Although concrete has high fire-resistance (Armerel and Taerwe,2013),a number of concrete bridges around the world could be affected by deterioration induced by fire.Investigations have been carried out into the compressive strength and residual mechanical properties of concrete after exposure to elevated temperatures.Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) are currently considered one of the best materials for deteriorated concrete structures (Bakis et al.,2002,Motavalli and Czaderski,2007,Micelli and Modarelli,2013).This paper investigates the behaviour of undamaged reinforced concrete (RC)columns,the strength reduction in concrete caused by heating,and the effectiveness of CFRPs to regain the integrity of concrete damaged by heating.Six 204 x 750mm RC columns and six 100 x 200mm plain concrete cylinders were fabricated from normal ready-mix concrete.
