Although artificial blood vessels have been developed and are in clinical use for many years, the lack of a living functional layer of human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)remains a significant challenge, especially for small diameter artificial blood vessels. The adherence of HUVECs on artificial blood vessels can be promoted specifically by REDV peptide. So gene carriers using REDV as targeting peptide could promote the proliferation and migration of ECs and inhibit that of human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells(SMCs),but it is still unexplored. It is of great interest to investigate whether it is possible to develop a biodegradable nanoparticle with the targeting ability, which should be condensed with genes in order to realize the specific adhesion and proliferation of HUVECs.
