As the computer calculation speed is improved year by year, the size of the vehicle model is constantly increasing to capture more and more geometric details for better simulation validation and predictions. For better injury predictions,it is equally important to have the finite element dummy models with similar mesh size and details. While keeping the time step at 0.8 micro second, the latest hybrid Ⅲ 5th-%tile female dummy finite element model was completely re-developed with a refined mesh size of 4-8 mm and targeting on neck and chest performance improvement. This paper describes the development of the Humanetics v7.0 Hybrid Ⅲ 5th-%tile female dummy finite element model. The model was created based on the FTSS brand with refined meshes and geometric details, such as joint stops, knee sliders, bolts, nuts, and holes. This will not only provide better physical representations but also the mass properties, such as the center of mass gravity and moment of inertia. The model was well validated at material, component, assembly and full dummy levels with significant correlation improvement compared to the previous version,v6.1.Special attentions were paid to modeling the joint stops, which were modeled as a moment-angle function from quasi-static test in the past. The new joint stops are modeled as solid elements with validated material properties to provide more physical response and greatly reduce the noise.Pre-stress is another new feature introduced to nodding blocks, neck rubber, bib, pelvis foam and pelvis vinyl. It helps achieve superior correlation in critical areas such as the neck and the chest. Finally,CORA [1] rating system was used to objectively rate and compare the performance of this new model. For the PDB sled case,an all time high CORA rating of 0.91,on a scale of 0-1,was accomplished.
