  Introduction: Mucosal infiltration of macrophages with compromised phagocytic activity has been implicated in local inflammation and damage of intestinal barrier,contributing to HIV immunopathogenesis.However,recent data on rectum macrophages in HIV infection are sparse.Objectives: In the present study,we investigated the effect of topical use of(-)-Epigallocateehin gallate(EGCG),a bioaetive component from green tea,on the accumulation of immune cells at the rectal mucosa in the macaque model upon SHIVSF162p3n challenge.
