  Sintering behavior and microstructure evolution of Bayer processed alumina is strongly influenced by powder chemistry(i.e.,impurities and dopants).Bayer processed alumina is usually classified based on its Na2O content,i.e.normal and low soda alumina.During the Bayer process,Na2O is introduced during the digestion of ground bauxite in caustic soda to extract alumina.A small amount of this impurity may form sodium β-alumina(Na2O·11Al2O3).
