The direct transformation of aldehydes with alcohols to esters under mild conditions is an environmentally friendly catalytic process in organic synthesis.The detailed transformation mechanism of methyl methacrylate (MMA) by methacrolein (MAL) with methanol on Pd catalyst was investigated by DFT calculation as an attempt to gain more insight into the oxidative esterification mechanism and reactivity.
