当代中国书法生存状态最重要的特点之一就是多元化,这与当代驳杂的社会文化语境有着直接的联系。书法的多元化特点,其具体线索可以追溯到20世纪70年代末80年代初。这些线索主要有:展览意识、展览机制以及大众传媒特别是20世纪90年代末期以来的互联网日益嵌入书法生活并逐步发挥主导作用;由高等书法教育启动起来的各种书法教育的蓬勃发展;市场体制的确立和书画作品走向市场;以上因素综合作用引发的大众书法热以及由之引发的书法文化的下移即民间化倾向。这是一个书法从单元发展态势走向多元化的过程,也是从精英文化转向大众化的过程。
