In the late 20th century, the classic narratologies in Europe and the United States gave way to post-structuralist narrative theories that are increasingly becoming pluralistic, deconstructed and politicized. In the transformation of this theory, the Australian critic Ian Reid is a post-colonial scholar who lives outside of the center of discourse of Western literary theory. He extensively absorbed the research achievements already made by the European and American scholars and at the same time actively integrated his own creative ideas in the humanities and social sciences. He advocated the study of narrative at the level of rhetoric, the narrative as an exchange of texts and readers, and the reexamination of narratives from a dynamic perspective Meaning generation process. His theoretical construction is inclusive and shows his tolerance and open-mindedness as a postcolonial theorist.
