毛泽东关于改造主观世界的命题是毛泽东思想乃至马克思主义发展史上极为重要的哲学命题,长期以来为众多国内外学者所关注和讨论,诺曼·莱文是积极参与到这一命题的思考与讨论的学者之一。莱文在《辩证法内部对话》中指出毛泽东的“系列”著作应看作改造干部主观世界所必备的“教材”加以阅读和审视,并从马克思主义理论谱系和中国传统文化发展脉络两条线索考察了毛泽东关于改造主观世界命题的理论渊源,从改变中国与改变世界的维度对改造干部主观世界的必要性加以阐明,从行动的辩证法入手对改造干部主观世界的方法论进行了阐发。但是,莱文的论述并不以描绘出毛泽东关于改造主观世界这一命题的理论全景为宏旨,而只是将毛泽东对党员干部的引导看作是为改造干部主观世界所进行的教育实践,并基于此展开讨论。尽管我们并不赞同莱文的理论立场和基本观点,但其学术思考为我们深度透视毛泽东及其思想提供了一种新的视角和方法论参考。
