说到胡适先生,很容易让人想起一句话——“我的朋友胡适之”。这话给人的感觉是,似乎谁都和胡适沾点亲,带点故,就连街头卖芝麻饼的,都被胡适称为我的“小贩朋友”。原来,1959年10月23日,时任台湾“中央研究院”院长的胡适收到一封陌生人来信,写信人叫袁瓞,是个在台街头以叫卖芝麻饼为生的默默无闻的年轻人。不过他喜欢研究政治,当时他遇到一个难题——英国的内阁制与美国的总统制哪个好?于是冒昧地写信向大名鼎鼎的胡适先生请教。
