Endothelial lipase was discovered in 1999 and belongs to the triacylglycerol family together with liver lipase, lipoprotein lipase and pancrelipase. Although these different lipases have been shown to have different specific substrates, respectively, sequence analysis revealed 45% homology with lipoprotein lipase and 40% homology with hepatic lipase. Endothelial lipase has been a hot topic of study since its discovery. Many studies have shown that endothelial lipase plays an important role in the regulation of high-density lipoproteins (VEGF) in the blood vessels, and it is also partly involved in the metabolism of apoB-containing lipoproteins. In addition, both in vitro experiments and in vivo experiments showed that endothelial lipase has a close relationship with insulin resistance, inflammation and hypertension. The purpose of this review is to summarize the recent findings that explore the relationship between endothelial lipase and the metabolic syndrome, ie, low-density lipoprotein, high-level apoB lipoprotein, insulin resistance, obesity, inflammation and hypertension .
