谢无量的书法恬静冲和、不激不厉,似出自不食人间烟火者。书法家余中英为谢无量故交,知之甚深,曾曰:“无量之字,好就好在随意挥毫,无意求工,纯任自然。一经落墨,便涉笔成趣,别有风致,不能以点画苛求之”。[1]吴丈蜀在《跋谢无量先生自书诗册并序》中写道:“谢先生在书法上的成就,不是关在屋子里临摹某种碑帖得来的,虽师古而不泥古,主要得力于他的学识和修养,也就是字外功夫。如果谢先生不是大学者和大诗人,决不可能在书法上有如此高深的造诣。”[2]
Thankless immeasurable calligraphy Chong Chong and unrelenting, may not come from the human fireworks. Yu Zhongying, a calligrapher, gave his thanks for his profound understanding. He once said: “The immeasurable word is good enough to be free to use whatever nature means. Dot painting demanding. ” [1] Wuzhang Shu wrote in his preface to the Book of Merit and Preface to Mr. Wuxianwu: “Mr. Xie’s achievements in calligraphy are not related to the copying of some kind of rubbings in the room. Not muddy, mainly due to his knowledge and self-cultivation, that is, words outside the kung fu .If Mr. Xie is not a big man and a poet, can never have such profound attainments in calligraphy. ”[2]
