As one of the most popular museums in the Netherlands, the Van Gogh Museum was fairly small at the beginning of 1973 and the architect Rietveld was designed to meet only 60,000 visits per year. However, in the ensuing decades, the number of visitors increased sharply, and the original venue was obviously stretched. As a result, the groundbreaking exhibition hall of the art museum, designed by the world famous architect Kurokawa, broke ground in 1997. However, more than a decade later, the museum is once again faced with a growing number of visitors. Two other large museums not far from the Van Gogh Museum of Fine Arts: the Stedelijk Museum and the National Museum have undergone a large-scale renovation and expansion over the past decade . In line with both development strategies, the Van Gogh Museum also started renovations in 2012 to propose creative solutions based on two previous builds: a brand new entrance hall. To this end, the architect Kurokawa chapter drawn a sketch, and built on their previous oval-shaped new museum made further elaboration, but unfortunately failed to achieve long-cherished wish.
