Artificial gravity is considered as a multi-system weightlessness countermeasure, which is an effective guarantee for further human exploration of deep space. Short-arm centrifuge is an effective way to achieve artificial gravity. In this paper, the possible application of artificial gravity in the future long-term manned space flight and medical problems are summarized. The background and development of artificial gravity are reviewed. This review focuses on the biomedical effects and their adverse effects of intermittent artificial gravity generated by short-arm centrifuges in ground, weightlessness or simulated weightlessness environments. Finally, the main task of artificial gravity medical research as well as the challenges and development prospects are introduced.
