As many as 24% of global disease is caused by avoidable environmental exposure. In a report issued on 16 June 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) demonstrated that many of this environmental risk can be prevented through highly targeted interventions. The report further estimates that more than 33% of children under 5 years of age are caused by environmental exposure.
