On October 18, the Central Department of Organization of CPC confirms that Ji Jianye, deputy chief of CPC in Nanjing, Jiangsu and mayor of this city, was engaged in severe violation against rules and the central government has decided to remove him from his governmental posts.
By now there is no official description about his violation, but it is widely believed to be related with the massive reconstructions in Nanjing.
Ji Jianye was born in January 1957. He came from Zhangjiagang, Suzhou and had the doctor degree in law. He was moved to Nanjing as the mayor of this city from Yangzhou, where he served as the Party chief in 2009. During his four-year tenure in Nanjing, he initiated several reformatory projects in this city to increase the innovative power of the city and redistribute the weight of administration and finance. In 2012, the economic volume of Nanjing increased from the 10th place to the 7th place among the 15 capital cities in China.
In spite of his contributions, Ji Jianye was severely criticized for his massive reconstructions to the infrastructure in this city.
In 2005, Nanjing hosted the 10th National Sports Game. After that, Nanjing government promised to avoid massive reconstructions as much as possible in the future since the reconstruction for the Game had brought a lot of inconvenience to Nanjing.
However, Ji Jianye broke the promise upon his arrival as a new round of massive constructions was put on the show. Among them the most questionable one was the “separating system of rain and waste water”. The budget of this project is far from being transparent so that every year someone would hold grudges against it in the council meeting of the city. In addition, the construction of subway project has also made significant progress, but the removal of the trademark phoenix trees in Nanjing displeased many citizens in this city.
