In May 1979, the IEEE Working Group collected extensive data on the clearance and leakage distances of the HVdc converter stations. Because the environmental conditions of the converter station have a great influence on the leakage distance and clearance of the DC insulator and bushing, it was decided to investigate the electrical sector and its subordinate bodies of the HVdc converter station that has been put into operation. As a practical reference and guidance, this paper provides the results of the survey. The contents of the survey are divided into the following sections. 1. The environmental conditions of the converter station. 2. The leakage distance of indoor and outdoor DC insulators and bushings. 3. Indoor and outdoor DC insulator and casing gap. 4. Maintenance and commutation stations for DC insulators and bushings
