Based on the treatment of bronchitis with water-soluble components of Rhododendron micranthum Turcz. leaves, we have conducted chemical and pharmacological studies in order to utilize the volatile oils in the leaves. Experiments have shown that Rhododendron chinensis volatile oil has good antihistamine, sputum, and antitussive effects. The antitussive effect is concentrated in the olefin portion of the oil, while the antihistamine and hydrazine effects are concentrated in the neutral oxygenated quinone portion of the oil, and the overall oil and all portions are less toxic. Further, five monomers were separated from the neutral oxygenated thorium fractions by chromatographic separation and identified by spectroscopic and physicochemical constants. Three crystals were initially identified as Curcumol, Juniper, and Delta. Catitol (δ-Cadinol). Curcuma alcohol crystals are the first sesquiterpene alcohols extracted from the plant of the azalea family.
