Objective To investigate the expression of p53 and p21 and the significance of HPV infection in nasal and sinus squamous cell carcinoma (referred to as nasal squamous cell carcinoma). Methods EnVision immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of p53 and p21 in 28 cases of nasal squamous cell carcinoma and 24 cases of nasal polyps. The HPV16 / 18 infection was detected by in situ hybridization. Results The positive expression rate of p53 in nasal squamous cell carcinoma was 64.29%, while the expression of p53 was not found in nasal polyps (P <0.01). The positive expression rate of p21 in nasal squamous cell carcinoma and nasal polyps There was no significant difference between the two groups. The positive rate of HPV16 / 18 in nasal squamous cell carcinoma was 78.57%, and the positive rate of HPV16 / 18 in nasal polyps was 0 (P <0.01). Conclusion The mutation of p53 gene and HPV infection may have a certain correlation with the occurrence and development of nasal squamous cell carcinoma.
