1811年,英国科学家 Humphry Davy(汉弗莱·戴维)在实验室无意中用氯酸钾和盐酸反应制备出ClO_2,直到上世纪30年代,ClO_2才以安全且经济的工业规模生产,并开始了广泛应用。1944年,ClO_2首次作为消毒剂用于处理美国纽约州尼亚加拉大瀑布城的饮用水。上世纪70年代后期,研制成功二氧化氯稳定剂后,ClO_2作为漂白剂和消毒剂,被广泛应用于纸浆的漂白、食品加工领域的杀菌消毒及水净化处理等。由于用 ClO_2消毒富含腐殖质的水不会生成有致癌作用的三卤甲烷(THM),所以已被联合国世界卫生组织(WHO)确认为一种安全、高效、广谱、强力杀菌
In 1811, British scientist Humphry Davy inadvertently reacted with potassium chlorate and hydrochloric acid to prepare ClO 2 in the laboratory. Until the 1930s, ClO 2 was produced on a safe and economical industrial scale and started extensive application. In 1944, ClO_2 was first used as a disinfectant to treat drinking water in Niagara Falls, New York, USA. The late 1970s, the successful development of chlorine dioxide stabilizer, ClO_2 as a bleach and disinfectant, is widely used in pulp bleaching, food processing and disinfection of the field of water purification. Since disinfecting humus-rich water with ClO_2 does not produce THM, which is carcinogenic, it has been recognized by the WHO as a safe, efficient, broad-spectrum and powerful bactericide
