我们都知道sleep是“睡觉”的意思，可是有的时候，sleep不一定是“睡觉”，而“睡觉”也不一定就得用sleep来表示。有点被我说晕了吧，看看下面几个短语你就明白了。
　　sleep on sth.
　　1. sleep on sth. 是“推迟做出决定，留到第二天解决”的意思，一件事情决定不下来，先把它放下，美美地睡上一觉再说，说不定睡醒后就会有好主意了呢。
　　I’ll sleep on your proposal[建议] and give you my answer tomorrow morning.
　　我会好好考虑一下你的建议，明早给你答复。
　　2. sleep off
　　sleep off 是“借睡觉恢复或复原”的意思，以睡觉来消除疲劳、负面的情绪、醉酒的状态等。Go home and sleep it off.
　　回家睡一觉，消除一下疲劳吧！
　　3. hit the sack
　　hit the sack从字面上看是“捅一个口袋”的意思，日常表达中的意思却是“要去睡觉了”。sack在这里是指床，hit是去床上睡觉的意思。但是，只有hit the sack可以表示“去睡觉”的意思，其它的，比如说，我要坐下，就不能说 to hit the chair；此外，to hit the sack只能指结束一天工作和学习后晚上去睡觉，午睡不能用这个短语来表达。
　　Louis was so tired that he hit the sack right after supper.
　　路易斯太累了，所以吃过晚饭就早早上床睡觉了。
　　4. to pull an all-nighter
　　to pull an all-nighter就是我们平常所说的“开夜车”，pull在这里指让自己受到某种煎熬。因此，这个短语更准确的意思，就是迫使自己通宵学习或工作。
　　I have to pull an all-nighter to get this project done.
　　我得熬夜把这个项目做完。
　　5. toss and turn
　　toss and turn就是“辗转反侧，翻来覆去难以入睡”的意思。
　　You toss and turn， but sleep won’ t come.
　　你辗转反侧，但总是睡不着。
　　I toss and turn in bed only because of you.
　　我在床上辗转反侧，不能入眠，只是因为你。
　　6. sleep through
　　sleep through指“睡时没被（闹钟等）吵醒或惊醒，睡着没听见（或看
　　见）”，表示睡觉时没有受到噪音的影响。
　　I’m afraid I slept through the alarm.
　　恐怕闹钟没能把我吵醒。
