大叶茶树品种鲜叶中含有丰富的茶多酚,用其所制成的红碎茶品质远非一般中小叶茶树品种所能比拟。但是,大叶品种在抗寒性方面表现较差,其适宜区域受到环境条件的制约,除了原产地和琼、粤、桂等省(区),以及湘、贵、川等省南部外,无法在长江中下游的广大茶区种植利用,这就从总体上降低了我国红碎茶的品质水平以及在国际市场上的竞争力。为此,“七五”期间,开展了以优质、抗寒为目标的大叶红茶品种选育研究,为育成红碎茶品质优异、抗寒性优于云南大叶种、产量高的新品种的选育积累了一些经验。本文就“五岭红”的选育研究作一简报,兼述对优质抗寒大叶红茶品种的选育谈些认识。

It is a new breed of high-yielding varieties with excellent quality and cold- The breeding has accumulated some experience. This paper gives a briefing on the breeding research of “Wuling red”, and also talks about the breeding of high quality, hardy and big leaf black tea varieties.
