Prostaglandin E_2 (PGE_2) produced in lung tissue has potential anti-allergic effect. In order to understand the effect of PGE 2 inhalation on allergic asthma, we used eight double-blind controls to treat 8 asthmatic patients with inhaled PGE 2 and placebo for observation. Methods Eight non-smoking (7 male) patients with specific asthma were enrolled in this study. Β 2 -receptor agonists were discontinued at least 6 hours prior to the test and corticosteroids were discontinued 48 hours after the subjects had previously inhaled allergens A history of bronchial asthma reactions (> 4% reduction in FEV 4 to 7 h after allergen inhalation).
