he year 2014 marks the 35th anniversary of China-U.S. diplomatic relations, while 2015 will see the 70th anniversary of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. The CPAFFC mounted a photo exhibition “Salute to Friendship——Images of China-U.S. Collaboration During World War II” in the congressional Rayburn House Office Building in Washington DC on May 19, and Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California on July 23.
Apart from commemoration of these anniversaries, the aim was to let more American people know about China and the history of China-US friendly relations as well as winning their understanding and support for further development of bilateral relations.
Around 100 people including CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin, Lu Kang, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Charles Boustany, Congressman from Louisiana and Co-Chair of the House US-China Working Group, Jim Moran, Congressman from Virginia, Christopher Cox, grandson of former US President Nixon, officials of the US State Department, congressional aides, and representatives of friendship-with-China organizations and American multinationals, attended the reception for the opening in the nation’s capital.
In California, CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin, Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles Liu Jian, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, Nixon Foundation President Bill Baribault, former US President Nixon’s grandson Christopher Cox, family members of former Flying Tigers pilot Glen Beneda were among about 100 friends from different sectors in attendance.
Soldiers of the US Army Signal Corps in China took the photographs on exhibition during World War II. They vividly recorded the history of over 70 years ago and reflected the sincere friendship of mutual support and fighting shoulder to shoulder between the Chinese and American people.
CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin expressed the hope that the people of the two countries would always remember the history of China-US friendship and pass this on to future generations, so as to contribute to the building of a new-type of major country relationship between the two countries.
